SpringCharts is written in Java and therefore requires the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to run on any platform. The JRE is included on Macintosh OS X and many Linux Platforms. Depending on which version of Windows is running on your machine, it may already come with the JRE installed.
To check your version of Java, follow these three simple steps:
1. Open a Terminal.
Windows: Open a Command Prompt (sometimes called MS-DOS Prompt). You can find this program by clicking on the Start menu on the lower left side of your screen. Select Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt (or MS-DOS Prompt). |
Macintosh: Open a Terminal. You will find this program in your Application folder inside the Utilities folder.
Linux: Open a Terminal Emulation Program window.
2. Type the following:
java . -version |
3. Press the Enter key.

Note: this screen is white on Macintosh computers.
If you do not have the JRE 1.4.2 on your system, you should download and install JRE 1.4.2 now.
To install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.2 on your systems, select the JRE for your operating system from this list:
JRE 1.4.2_03 for Windows
